Small stones. Detailed requirements. Define the parcel before the pave, halo or accent design goes into production.

Define the product family
Lab-grown melee diamonds are small accent stones purchased for pave, halos, bands and other multi-stone work. This family separates round melee, fancy-shape small diamonds and fancy-color melee because their sorting and acceptance criteria differ. For round stones, agree the actual sieve or diameter range. Fancy shapes require measured outlines, while colored parcels add tone consistency. State whether the request is by stone count, total carat weight or a production list. A nominal size alone is not enough to establish a calibrated parcel, and documentation should be described at the appropriate parcel or individual-stone level.

Choose with a complete specification
A category page should help you compare options before you submit an enquiry.
Specify the actual diameter or sieve range rather than treating a nominal 1.5 mm label as a universal tolerance. Ask how the parcel is sorted, measured and presented for acceptance. The agreed interval must suit the setting.
A total-carat parcel and a counted packet are different order descriptions. Confirm the quantity, total weight, approximate or measured per-stone information, packing list and any agreed allowance before comparing parcel quotations.
A pave field can make small color or cut differences visible as a group. For colored melee, compare the tone and distribution across the parcel rather than approving a large colored center stone as evidence of small-stone consistency.
Keep the size interval, cut description, parcel color/clarity criteria and approved appearance reference. Reorder against that written specification; an earlier parcel photo is not a guarantee that future batches will be identical.
06 / A practical comparison
Compare the properties that change the purchasing decision, then review the actual selected stones or parcel.
| Melee type | Dimensional language | Additional matching check |
|---|---|---|
| Round full-cut melee | Diameter or sieve interval | Cut pattern and parcel appearance |
| Fancy-shape melee | Length, width, depth and outline | Shape-specific proportions and sorting |
| Fancy-color melee | Dimensions plus a color reference | Tone distribution and treatment disclosure |
| Counted production packet | Stone count and packing list | Count against the design positions |
| Total-carat parcel | Total weight and size interval | How quantity and variation are described |
Connect products to the finished piece

Pavé shoulders and halos use many small round stones in a close layout. Supply the seat dimensions and design count, then review the parcel’s fit and visual consistency so the accents support the center and follow the intended pattern.

Princess squares and straight baguettes can create different sections of a geometric band. Separate the two shape groups in the stone list, with their counts, dimensions and positions, so neighboring outlines are selected for the intended layout rather than an undefined assortment.

08 / Before you source
It should refer to stones selected against a defined dimensional range and other agreed criteria. Ask for the actual interval, measurement method and parcel description. The word calibrated does not create one standard tolerance across all shapes and suppliers.
Use the dimensions needed by the setting, then state the purchase unit as count, total carat weight or a production list. Millimeter-to-carat conversions are approximate and cannot replace the actual parcel weight or a required stone count.
Do not assume that a small-stone parcel has an individual report for every stone. State the documentation or testing requirement in the enquiry and confirm how the proposed parcel is described, checked and supplied before ordering.
Color adds another selection dimension. A parcel may need an agreed tone reference and group review in addition to dimensions and cut. Availability of large colored diamonds does not prove stable supply of small matching colored melee.
Retain the approved size range, cut description, parcel grades, purchase unit and acceptance criteria. Include the previous order reference and any setting issues in the new brief. Confirm the actual offered batch against those requirements.
09 / Prepare the next conversation
Start with the fixed requirements and explain where the sourcing selection can vary.
Describe the product format, design requirements, document needs and intended purchase unit. The actual selection and commercial terms are confirmed through the quotation.
